History
James "Dudy" Walker retired in 1993 after 41 years of
teaching music at Florida College. At every home concert and
on tour, his custom was to invite former chorus members from
the audience to join the chorus on stage in singing the
final hymn, "The Lord Bless You and Keep You." Perhaps the
most special of these times occurred every year at the
concert given during the college's annual lectureship when Dudy's young college chorus was joined by 50-60 chorus
alumni to sing Dudy's trademark song.
In honor of Dudy's retirement, an alumni chorus was
organized in 1993 and made its first recording. The group
was later renamed the "Florida College Alumni Chorus Booster
Club." Each year, the chorus practices selected songs at
two rehearsals during lecture week and then records them
professionally on Saturday. Various members of Dudy's
choruses participate year after year; some have sung for
every recording. Given the changing nature of the group, the
limited rehearsal time, and the acappella nature of the
recording, the quality achieved is truly amazing.
We hope you will enjoy our recordings year after year. If
you don’t have the previous years' tapes or CDs, make plans
to order now. |
